LACK OF PROGRESS GOT YOU DOWN? 3 REBOOTS TO GET YOUR HEAD RIGHT

Making consistent progress, however little, on a daily basis is so important to the overall feeling of progress and advancement. The mind needs these daily workouts to get strong.

How many times have you become entirely frustrated with yourself when you set a goal but abandon it at the first smack in the face by life – or worse… never begin?

You feel as though you’re trying but if you’re being fully honest with yourself, you know that you’re not actually giving it your all.

Does 'One step forward, five steps back' sound about right?

Then, when the going gets tough, you start to question how important your goal is to you.

Some of your excuses probably look like this:

  • “I’m too tired right now;”

  • “I’m not in a creative enough space to do that;”

  • “I’ll work on it tomorrow;”

  • “I don’t know how to do that”

  • “I don’t know where to begin so what the heck am I doing?”

This negative space we’ve created now expands and has the ability to paralyze forward movement – often showing up as anxiety, indecision, frustration, anger and even depression. Before you know it, you’ve killed your own dream.

This rings especially true if you’re a multi-passionate femmepreneur. Your attention, intentions, and actions can get so scattered that you lose track of what's important.

All of a sudden, you feel like you’re putting in so much effort, but have nothing to show for it and the results are far from what you hoped.

Well, here are my top 3 reboots for healing the insistent sting of stagnation (or regression) to get you back on track:

1. Own your progress

Take inventory of how far you’ve come. You’ve achieved many other things up until this point and that deserves praise. Landed a job, graduated from college, completed a course, planted a tree, helped someone cross the street, baked a cake, watched a sunset you've been putting off? You did that girl – celebrate!

2. Be present

Maybe you don’t love your job; in fact, you might have considered quitting. You’re discontent and ready for a change. But, the bills still need to be paid. What do you do?

For starters, baby steps. Do whatever it is that you’re facing right now with the best possible version of you. You owe it to yourself to put your best foot forward by finding meaning in the ‘little joys.’ Anything that turns your present down-in-the-slumps mood around so that you can move past what must be completed right now, so that you can move onto experiences you enjoy.

3. Gratitude

Being grateful for what you already have is the way forward. When you acknowledge all that you have (and you got a lot my dear – I’m sure of it), you’ll realize that things really aren’t as bad as they seem. Gratitude centers; it allows you fill your cup of awesomeness from which you can overflow. Hence, you’ll then be able to give of yourself to others. I like to begin by listing all the things that I'm thankful for. “I am so thankful for___________” or “Thank you for ___________.” Try to incorporate this exercise on a daily basis until it becomes second nature.

I wonder…

  • How would any or all of these strategies most benefit a specific area of your life?

  • Efforts don’t appear to be paying off – what do you do to overcome the rut?
